979fm provides the only true community radio service broadcasting across the City of Melton. For almost 40 years, our valued volunteers provide continuous programming twenty-four hours per day from our local studio complex in Melton with transmissions occurring from our transmission facility located at Mount Kororoit in Rockbank.
Throughout our history, we have and will continue to operate on a purely not-for-profit basis with a growing membership base, currently balanced at more than eighty local volunteers from communities across the City of Melton.
Our variety of programming is produced for and by members of the local City of Melton Community. Our programming includes specialist and generalist music programs, local community news and talkback, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) programming, youth orientated and local sports including action coverage of Ballarat Football League games throughout the playing season.
Our well renowned Culturally and Linguistically Diverse programming is produced by our volunteer announcers in languages including Maltese, Spanish, Chinese, Punjabi, Filipino, Croatian, Hindi, Greek and Italian
In our continuing aim of serving our local community, 979fm offers all locally based community groups an increased voice and community presence via professionally produced promotions, live on air promotion of community activities and the provision of on-site broadcasting from special events in all broadcasted languages. Local events that 979fm has provided this on-site service to include the Djerriwarrh Festival, Summersault Festival, Relay for Life, Lakeside Live, Melton Star Search and Friends of Toolern Creek Platypus Festival.
In servicing the thriving local business community in the City of Melton, we offer all businesses a range of low cost professional on-air promotional packages to provide increased knowledge of the range of goods and services on offer in the City of Melton. These packages provide an end to end service from initial contact to full production and broadcast of promotional spots.
