On Saturday September 1st the members of 3RIM 979fm unanimously voted to name Leo “The Tiger” Johnson a life membership of the station. Leo is a long term member of 979fm and was heavily involved in Melton Community Radio’s application to be grated a broadcasting licence. Anyone who attended the 2010 presentation night will remember Tiger talking about the early days of the station (back when music was on wax cylinders and the panel was steam powered!)
The meeting to decide life membership was kept secret from Tiger and at the time he was on-air commentating on BFL Game Of The Round. His co-commentator Michael Nevinson was in on the secret and surprised Tiger with the news towards the end of the broadcast. For the first time in his life Tiger was left speechless! This was Tiger’s first football broadcast since his operation so it was a very special show for Tiger. If you didn’t hear it on air you can listen to a podcast at http://soundcloud.com/the-benchwarmers-1/leo_johnson_life_membership.
I spoke to Tiger on Saturday night and he is extremely grateful of the honour the members of 979fm have bestowed upon him. Tiger will be officially presented with his life membership at the annual Presentation Night on November 17th.
